Latest Covid-19 decisions adopted by the Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases

In light of the growing number of Covid-19 cases, particularly at the 9 Eylül Primary School, the Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases has adopted the following decisions and measures.

 

  1. The mandatory quarantine requirement for all individuals entering the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been extended to January 31, 2021.

 

  1. Individuals who have been in close contact with positive Covid-19 cases at the 9 Eylül Primary School have been placed in state-monitored quarantine facilities. All teachers, school personnel, students and their families who have not been placed in quarantine facilities are required to remain in self-isolation in their homes until January 10, 2021. Individuals who fail to self-isolate and violate home quarantine rules will be subject to legal prosecution under the Infectious Diseases Act. These individuals and families will not be allowed to receive guests until January 10, 2021.

 

  1. The mid-semester holiday for all primary and secondary schools will be held between January 04-15, 2021 (both dates inclusive).

 

  1. Face-to-face education at all prep-schools or private teaching institutions including private lessons or tutoring are hereby suspended between December 31, 2020- January 18, 2021 (both dates inclusive). Students to sit international exams during this period will be allowed to do so on the condition that they adhere by all Covid-19 safety and health measures.

 

  1. Due to the recent rise in Covid-19 cases in South Cyprus, all individuals wishing to cross into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (for the exception of diplomatic corps) between December 31, 2020 – January 10, 2021, will be placed in quarantine at a state-monitored facility upon entry. Permits issued by the Health Ministry exempting individuals working in South Cyprus from travelling back and forth to their workplaces without being placed quarantine have been revoked until January 10, 2021.

 

  1. A night-time curfew between 10 pm and 5 am will be in force between December 31, 2020, and January 04, 2021 (both dates inclusive). Health workers, law enforcement officers and those on official duty will be exempt from this practice.

 

  1. Gatherings of more than 10 persons at each household between December 31, 2020, and January 03, 2021, is not permitted.

 

  1. In addition to the decision (237 published in the Official Gazette) concerning the cancellation of New Year’s celebrations, wedding and engagement ceremonies, mass worship, exhibitions, cinemas and theatres, birthday parties are banned until January 3, 2021.
